NZ Cycle Atlas has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It sends nothing about you anywhere, except in a map report you write and send yourself — see below.

Your location

The app uses your location to show where you are on the trail. It is used on your device and is never transmitted, unless you send a map report, which carries the place you are reporting about.

Reporting something missing from the map

Reporting is always your choice. The app never sends one on its own, and everything else in it works whether you ever report anything or not.

The map comes from OpenStreetMap, and a report is how something missing from it gets added. If you write one, pressing send posts it to us. It contains:

  • the trail it was reported from, and its name
  • the place you are reporting about, as coordinates — where the phone said you were, or wherever you dragged the pin — and how accurate the phone said that was
  • what you chose it is: toilets, drinking water, a viewpoint, and so on
  • anything you wrote in the description
  • your email address, only if you chose to type one in, which is used to reply to you about that report and for nothing else

That is the whole of it. Nothing about you or your phone goes with it: no identifier, no account, no device details.

Reports are read only to improve the maps, and what they describe is added to OpenStreetMap, which is public. They are not published as reports, shared, or used for anything else.

What is kept on your phone

Your rides, your settings and whether you have bought the app are stored on your device and nowhere else. Deleting the app deletes them.

Paying

Purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store. We never see your payment details.

Updates

The app asks the app store whether there is a newer version of itself. That is a question about the app: it sends the app’s own name to the store and nothing about you or your phone, and the answer is not kept.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

Your rights

Nothing is held about you unless you sent a map report and chose to put your address in it — everything else is on your own device, under your own control. If you have sent a report and would like it and your address deleted, ask at the address below and it will be.

Changes

If the app ever collects anything, this policy will say so before that version ships, and the date at the top will change.
